Letters to Our Heroes: Voices of Gratitude This Independence Day

They stand for us. Let’s stand with them.

There is something about Independence Day that makes us pause.

The Tricolour looks a little more beautiful.
The national anthem feels a little more powerful.
The word freedom feels a little heavier.

And somewhere, amid the celebrations, speeches, flags and patriotic songs, there is a thought that often crosses my mind:

Who makes it possible for us to celebrate this freedom so freely?

For most of us, Independence Day means waking up at home, celebrating with family, watching the flag hoisted, sharing messages, singing patriotic songs and perhaps remembering the sacrifices that built this nation.

For the men and women of our Armed Forces, it can mean something very different.

They may be thousands of kilometres away from home.

They may be standing guard while we sleep.

They may be missing a family celebration.

They may be waiting for a phone call.

They may be carrying responsibilities that most of us will never fully understand.

And behind every uniform, there is also a family that waits.

This Independence Day, I wanted to do something simple.

Not another post about our Armed Forces.

I wanted to create something for them.

So I asked fellow Indians to write a few heartfelt words to our Armed Forces.

No elaborate rules.

No requirement to be a writer.

Just one request:

Tell a soldier that India remembers.
Tell them that India is grateful.
Tell them that India stands with them.

The response was deeply moving.

From Mumbai to Jaipur, Pune to Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand to Darjeeling, Gujarat to Jammu & Kashmir, and from people who dream of wearing the uniform to those who have lived closely with military families—39 people took the time to write.

Some wrote paragraphs.

Some wrote poems.

Some wrote from personal experience.

Some wrote just a sentence.

And some simply wrote:

Jai Hind.

But every single one came from the same place.

Gratitude.

So, this Independence Day, instead of telling you what I think, I want you to hear what they had to say.

These are their words.

Unedited. Unfiltered. Exactly as they were submitted.

1. Surg Lt Cdr (Dr) Vibhu Tiwari

Having had the pleasure of spending 7 years with you all, I’m proud that I was able to serve you, and I’m more proud of what you do for our great country with unflinching dedication and true devotion

For others, patriotism seems an occasional ornament to be worn on select occasions

But for you, the patriotism is an inseparable part of the uniform, you will take off that uniform eventually, but the patriotic zeal never fades away

The sacrifices aren’t just of the men and women in Uniform, a bigger and largely overlooked underappreciated sacrifice is also made by the families of people in armed forces who live in perpetual uncertainty of seeing you alive or not, every late night ring on the mobile makes one’s heart skip a beat, when your kids see you maybe once or twice a year and your family learns to go about their lives without you for the most part.

We are indebted for your service and wish you well, we also salute the indomitable spirit of your families who surmount innumerable issues silently and patiently enabling you to be at your best, always and everytime.

Humble regards
Jai Hind

Dear Armed Forced, you’re the most selfless people in the world, your sacrifices are more than what we know of,its not just the sacrifice you make being away from your family but you literally put your life on the line for us, while we sleep, talk or complain about stupid stuff or about govt(tho I like BJP, but they have their flaws), you guys stand there in extreme conditions safeguarding the country and our people, who at times are not even grateful about it, no one talk about the huge heart you guys carry, jitna thank you kahu utna kam hai,

Hum sab bss sapne dekhte reh gye army join krne ka or aap waha pohochke apni jaan pe khel ke hume bachate hai
Chahe andhi aaye ya tufaan, ya dushman ho ya koi chattan,
Aap kisi se nahi ghabrate hai,
Jab aaye baat desh ki aap sher ban ladjaate hai
Hum baithte hai gharpe araam se, or phir neend se sojate hai
Ye toh hai bss shourya apka, jo hum kabhi bhi bekhauf tehel ghoom aate hai
Rhega ye karz dhart par apka, uske liye apke saamne hum adar se apne mastak jhukaate hai
Kaise bataye kya hai aap hu,are liye, isliye bss apko dekh JAI HIND ka naara lagate, JAI HIND ka naara lagate hai

Thank you so much for all you do for us, hope all of the Armed Forces and your families stay healthy and happy
JAI HIND

To every brave member of the Indian Armed Forces, thank you for your unwavering courage, discipline, and dedication to our nation. While millions of us go about our daily lives in peace, you stand ready to protect our borders, our people, and our sovereignty. Your sacrifices, often made far from your families and loved ones, can never be fully repaid. Wherever you serve—at the borders, in the skies, at sea, or in challenging terrains—know that your nation remembers and respects your service. 🇮🇳 Jai Hind!

10. Kavya A S — Pune

There are hardly words to describe when one thinks of the gratitude felt towards the Great Armed Forces of India. This sacred hallowed land is protected by the brave souls of the Armed Forces, as though the Great Bhairava Himself has permeated the bodies of each and every member of this illustrious cohort.

I always marvel at the sheer tenacity of our Armed Forces. All of you bravehearts have weathered untenable obstacles both within the country and at our borders. You have been at the forefront of our humanitarian missions that enumerate the phrase “vasudaiva kudumbakam”, acting as the helping hand of the loving family member that India is to the whole world. As Kerala and Assam struggle with floods, images of your timely and compassionate service fill the eyes and heart.

You are a force like no other. Encompassing the spirit of Arjuna on the battlefield, of Jesus among the Jewish masses, of Zoroaster among the Persians, of Hanuman among the people of Lanka, of Guru Nanak and Gobind among the people of Punjab, you emerge as glory like no other, unbeaten, unbroken and forever victorious.

Jai Hind!

Dear Soldier,

I don’t know your name. I may never meet you. But I want you to know that somewhere in India, and wherever Indians may be around the world, there is someone who sleeps peacefully because you chose to stand awake.
While I celebrate Independence Day with my family, you may be standing far away from yours. While I hold my loved ones close, your family may be waiting for the day you come home.

I cannot imagine what it feels like to miss birthdays, festivals, celebrations, and ordinary moments with the people you love; just so millions of strangers like me can enjoy ours.

I often see the Tiranga and feel proud to be Indian. But today, I see it differently.
That flag is not just a symbol of our freedom. It carries your sacrifice.
If you ever feel that the country has forgotten you, please remember this:
I have not.
I may never know the battles you have fought, the tears you have hidden, or the fear you have overcome. But I will always be grateful that when India needed someone to stand, you stood.

This Independence Day, my salute is not just to the uniform.
It is to the son who left his mother.
The daughter who left her family.
The husband or wife who said goodbye.
The parent whose child waits for them to come home.
And to every soldier who quietly carries the weight of a billion dreams on their shoulders,
Thank you for protecting the India that I call home.

May you always return safely to the people who are waiting for you.
With all my heart and with immeasurable pride!

Jai Hind. 🇮🇳

To Those Who Stand Watch

Reading these letters one after another, something becomes clear.

People don’t necessarily know the names of the soldiers standing guard.

They don’t know their units.

They don’t know where they are posted.

They may never meet them.

But they know what they mean.

They know that their ability to study, work, travel, celebrate, sleep peacefully, hug their families and simply live ordinary lives is connected to people who have chosen an extraordinary life of service.

And perhaps the most powerful part of this collection is that gratitude came in so many different forms.

A former serviceman spoke about patriotism becoming inseparable from the uniform.

A defence aspirant spoke about a dream of joining the Forces that remained unfulfilled.

An army child spoke about the difficulty of living with a parent posted at the borders.

A daughter, sister and wife of an Army family spoke about the difficulty of watching loved ones leave home.

A student simply said:

“I can study here well and good, all thanks to you.”

Someone asked for more focus on drone warfare.

Someone wrote only:

“You guys are the saviours.”

Someone wrote simply:

“Army.”

And someone wrote:

“Jai Hind.”

Different words.

Different lives.

Different cities.

One emotion.

Gratitude.

That is what this collection became.

Not a collection of perfect letters.

Not a collection of carefully edited speeches.

But the ordinary citizens stopping for a moment to tell extraordinary people:

We see you.

We remember you.

We are grateful for you.

A Letter From All of Us

To the men and women of the Indian Armed Forces,

We may not know where you are today.

We may not know what the weather condition is like where you stand.

We may not know the number of nights you have spent away from home.

But we know this:

You stand for India.

And today, India stands with you.

To every soldier, sailor and air warrior serving this nation—

To every family that waits for them…

To every mother who watches the door…

To every father who quietly carries his worry…

To every spouse who keeps the family going…

To every child who grows up waiting for a parent to come home!

And to every braveheart who has made the ultimate sacrifice!

Thank you.

There are debts that cannot be repaid.

There are sacrifices that cannot be measured.

And there are people whose service can never truly be captured in words.

But perhaps we can begin with two simple ones:

Thank you.

And

Jai Hind.

To every person who sent a letter

Thank you for taking the time to write.

Some of you wrote long letters.

Some wrote a few lines.

Some wrote just a few words.

But every message mattered.

Because sometimes, a soldier doesn’t need a thousand words.

Sometimes, they simply need to know that somewhere, someone remembers.

This collection is my small attempt to make sure those voices reach them.

They stand for us.

Let’s stand with them.

Happy Independence Day.

Jai Hind. Vande Mataram.

The World Celebrates the Success of Operation SINDOOR!

Imagine a moment in history when a nation and beyond the nation, people come together in gratitude, in appreciation. A moment when the nation pauses to unitedly celebrate the anniversary of the biggest military operations, Operation Sindoor.

From the coldest heights of Siachen to the burning heat of deserts, from the depths of the oceans to the airspace, our Armed Forces carry beyond just the weight of the lives of billions with enough courage and wit.

Crowd holding signs and flags showing appreciation for Operation Sindoor and Indian armed forces

Across cities, campuses, homes, and borders, and beyond borders, people brought one emotion in common: respect for the Indian Armed Forces.

Let me remind you, these are not scripted tributes or official statements or speeches.
These are messages from people carrying real emotions and gratitude.

A few spoke about the sacrifice.
A few spoke about pride.
Many others showed gratitude.

But together, the messages signalled the victory of Operation Sindoor.

To our heroes who are guarding our borders, every single officer who is leading with courage, and every family waiting in silence, and every sacrfice built this nation’s pride.

This is truly for you.

India remembers.
India respects.
India stands with you.

✉️ OPEN LETTER #18

From: Mir Yar Baloch  |  📍 Democratic Republic of Balochistan

The Republic of Balochistan pays tribute to the twenty-six innocent Indian tourists who were martyred in the brutal and terrorist incident carried out by Pakistan in Pulgam, on the occasion of its first anniversary. We also congratulate the Government of India for Operation Sindoor, undertaken to bring Pakistan and its religious extremists to justice. Operation Sindoor was a bold step a commendable military operation to teach Pakistan’s terrorists an unforgettable lesson.

On behalf of six crore (60 million) brave, honorable, and freedom-loving sons of Balochistan, we extend our friendship, trust, respect, sincere support, and a pledge to stand with the 1.5 billion people of India against the common enemy that is Pakistan. We offer our full and firm support to the courageous Indian Armed Forces, Navy, Air Force, the current government, and the nation of India on the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor.

The friendly relations between India and Balochistan date back centuries. Balochistan was never, is not, and will never be a part of Pakistan. We declared our independence on August 11, 1947, and reaffirmed this declaration in May 2025 during the operation in the form of the Republic of Balochistan. Our sixty million Baloch people stood with the people of India and sent a clear message to Pakistan to immediately withdraw from our land and sea.

As Operation Sindoor is still ongoing, the sixty million people of Balochistan assure the Government of India and all armed forces that Balochistan stands even more firmly with India than before. The time has now come for India and Balochistan to jointly initiate Operation Sindoor II to eradicate a menace like Pakistan from its roots.

At present, Pakistan is sinking into a swamp of economic, political, military, and multiple crises. In Balochistan, Pakistan’s occupying forces are afraid to patrol the streets in Balochistan even after 6 PM. Every young person in Balochistan is a soldier today; the Baloch nation is born military-minded, they don’t need basic training. At this time, the Republic of Balochistan has a force of 500,000 Baloch troops, along with an air force and navy ready.

We want India to support Balochistan economically, defensively, politically, and diplomatically so that we can play a constructive role in resolving ongoing oil, energy crisis, and help to solve other regional issues. Balochistan possesses vast reserves including rare earth minerals, oil, gas, coal, gold, and many other resources, and the ports of Gwadar and Chabahar also belong to Balochistan. When Balochistan and India join hands, the world will not pressure us but instead be willing to partner with us.

Sahi Wakt Hai, Yahi Wakt Hai. Long live India- Baloch friendship.

I still remember 22 April 2025 clearly — the day we had just entered Srinagar, unaware of what was about to unfold. By evening, the news of the attack in Pahalgam shook us deeply. It was a moment of fear, uncertainty, and realization of the harsh realities our nation faces.

In times like these, the courage and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces stand as our strongest shield. While we watched the news with concern, they stepped forward without hesitation — ready to protect, defend, and sacrifice.

Their bravery is not just seen in moments of war, but in their constant vigilance, their resilience, and their commitment to the nation, even in the face of danger. Because of them, millions of us can live in peace.

Jai Hind!

When candles refused to fade out!

A Cry for Peace from the Hearts of Manipur

An evening when even the skies wept, poured out its heart for peace in Imphal! But the irony is the skies weren’t alone, over 150 ex-servicemen of Manipur, their families, and Veer Naris stood silently under the downpour at Kangla Gate, holding candles for peace.

A moral stand taken by the Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Association of Manipur (AFESAM). They are the ones who have given their lives for the nation and have seen the war in its most brutal form. These are the families who have survived throughout their lives sacrificing, they understand the importance of peace.

The event was led under the stewardship of Lt Gen K. Himalay Singh (Retd) and Brig L. Ibotombi Singh (Retd), both respected figures among the veteran community.

A similar effort was made on April 25 where the idea of unity was enforced through a voluntary blood donation camp at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Lamphelpat.

The light carried by each candle narrated a story…

Of a retired soldier who was attacked in Ukhrul by militants.
Of a six-month-old child, who was brutally made to sleep forever, never got to see the sunrise in Tronglaobi.
And of families who are still waiting for the footsteps that are gone forever.

And somewhere the candles lit the question in silence:

Is the violence worth it? Is there no space for unity and peace?

The evening didn’t burn the wax and wick, it ignited the spirits of hope, og past grief, memory and the idea of peace.

Imagine the strongest warriors came together not for a battle but to stand in unity for peace.

Enough is enough!

Lt Gen K. Himalay Singh (Retd) called out for peace not just as a veteran, but as a son of the soil.

He advised people to move away from violence, hate and provocative words that lead to violence.

These weren’t just words, the members of AFESAMproved their intent through action, they took a initiative to give away one day’s pension.

They stood in solidarity and times of pain.

They stood every individual, for the innocent lives lost and even for the ones who are fighting the silent battle within.

Well, this move surely moved many!

Brig L. Ibotombi Singh (Retd) spoke of balance and highlighted that security forces shouldn’t just focus on enforcing law but also to rebuild trust. And also a quick reminder that peace is imposed through understanding and through fear.

Seven promises. One hope.

As the candles stood strong against the rain, a resolution was passed, a seven-point promise

  • End violence now and not tomorrow.
  • Reject hate in all forms
  • Build trust between people and forces
  • Begin dialogue as necessity
  • Bring home the ones who are displaced with dignity
  • Ensure fair justice
  • Revive broken lives

The Final Pledge

As the evening came to an end, people rose together in unity with a mindset to stand by peace, protect coexistence and ensure that remains a symbol of unity.

The path that Manipur will choose will now demand restraint, dialogue, empathy and courage for a better tomorrow.

Now comes the question for the people of Manipur!

The veterans made an effort, they did what they could.

They stood by you!

Will you choose the burning path or the path of peace and healing?

-Jai Hind!

When Time Salutes Service: Old Comrades Reunite in Poonch

Brotherhood is the most precious thing a soldier carries. And when it’s about Indian Army, brotherhood is lived through the darkest and coldest nights, shared rations, silent understanding, and most importantly through unspoken promise that no one is ever left behind. This promise doesn’t fade away with retirement.

And here’s a glimpse of what happened very recently in the quiet hills of Poonch and became a classic bookmark of brotherhood.

The Chief of the Indian Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi  visited the forward areas and reviewed operational  preparedness and spoke to our heroes, the soldiers standing firmly with steady eyes, guarding the borders. The Army Chief  appreciated and acknowledged the readiness and the spirit of our soldiers.

When Two Soldiers Meet Again

Your heart will literally melt at this moment. The retired Subedar (Honorary Captain) Parvez Ahmed of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles received an unexpected visit from the Army Chief. In no time, a reunion of memories rushed.

The two legends had previously served together when General Dwivedi commanded the battalion from 2002 to 2005.  Even though time passed quickly, their bond went strong!

Service Without a Uniform

Subedar Parvez Ahmed served in the Army from 1991 until his retirement in 2019. He gained recognition for his exceptional work, and he also trained young soldiers and made his mark by excelling in specialised courses.

The retired soldier stepped in again during Operation SINDOOR, when tensions ran high in the region. He effectively guided and assisted the troops that were deployed in the region with logistics and coordination. He brought in his expertise of the terrain and exceptional local connections.

The Army Chief appreciated these efforts and felicitated the legend with the Veteran Achiever Award. The moment of honour was marked with the presence of family members, fellow veterans, and residents. The Army Chief had informal conversations with civilians and Ex-servicemen bringing in comfort and warmth.

Beyond the Visit

So, for a place like  Poonch, the Army is somewhere a part of everyday life, in history as well as within the generations that have grown up witnessing the sacrifice as a way of living. This visit was way more than an official visit; it emphasised the bonds that last forever, the bonds that are forged in service, the ones that don’t retire!

It’s a beautiful reminder that a brotherhood bond that is once earned is carried for life.

And somewhere between the two old comrades, the Army honoured its past, lived its present, and reflected the future! The service did salute the service!

Also, remember, the Indian Army service doesn’t retire; it lives on in veterans who effortlessly continue to serve.

The Parade towards the Future!

Okay, so let’s face it… whenever you think of a “parade,” you automatically start imagining a march and maybe nothing beyond that!

It’s time you pause your doom-scrolling for a second. Because if you think the Indian Army Day Parade was just “left-right-left and maybe some tanks, done” then I must say congratulations, officially you have been locked under a digital rock.

This year’s parade was right out of your imagination.

And honestly?
It totally looked straight out of the future!

For the first time ever, the Indian Army marched out of its cantonment zone and people witnessed their valour on the  buzzing streets of Mahal Road, Jagatpura, Jaipur.

From ‘Discipline’ to ‘Damn, That’s Cool’

The parade was a proper mix of tradition, tech advancements, sheer capabilities and the way ahead of curve approach.  We saw precision, power, and goosebumps every minute!

But what really hit different was how it was done this time!

The debut of Bhairav Battalion

The new high-tech combat units of the Indian Army totally thrilled the audience with their Rudra avatar, the unit is equipped for swift and high-impact operations across combat environments.

Helicopters, Missiles, Drones and robots

It felt like you just said, “Hey Siri, take me to a futuristic parade.”  The fly-past alone might have made many jealous! Oops… if you are a reader from the enemy country then you might just burn your eyes!

A friendly reminder: Tech Isn’t just Supporting the Army Anymore. It Is now the Army.

Well, here’s where it gets spicy!

This parade flexed some of the most modern capabilities:

  • Advanced technology
  • New-age warfare readiness
  • Smart future ready systems

India roared its capabilities loud, it was more like a display of the preparedness!

So, what was the message here?

“Unlike others we don’t announce upgrades. We showcase them.” IYKYK

Let’s Break the Fourth Wall?

Influencers? And that too at a Parade? YES. And It Worked!

Ever thought of influencers and creative content creators narrating patriotism?

Imagine digital creators translating the military power in the Gen Z language?

Lit, isn’t it?  (PS: I am trying my best to be in the shoes of Gen Z)

And Social media largely becoming a part of the parade experience?

So, the first ever parade that was youth friendly and conversational.

The Beats, The Drums, The Energy

Close your eyes and quickly image:

  • Tradition meeting the future!
  • Drums syncing with the march
  • Every beat asking to move forward!

Now tune in to this video:

Wasn’t the parade marching into the future?

Well, in all honesty: This Parade Felt Personal

If you witnessed this live, through videos or through social media, don’t you think at some point, you felt you aren’t the spectator anymore, you start feeling like:

  • You are part of it
  • This is your Army
  • This is your future that’s being protected by these heroes
  • This strength is the guaranty to your everyday life

This is the New Era, This is the New India!

Indian Army’s Top 10 Milestones from 2025, You Can’t Miss!

If 2025 is the year that taught the world something new then it was..
India is no longer defensive, it is offensive! It’s the New India that shapes outcomes!

The Indian Army demonstrated a masterclass in the modern warfare that combines combining deterrence, discipline, and digital dominance. Right from well calculated cross-border strikes to deep-tech battlefield integration, the Indian Army aced the diagonal of the new battleground!

Now Let’s look at the power packed year where Indian Army’s future-ready, adaptive forces set an example to the world.

Here are 10 big achievements out of many more that would make you fall for their efforts even more!

1. Operation SINDOOR: You know it, I know it!

The Operation that became the textbook course for many!

In May 2025, post the Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan Army–backed terrorists, Indian Armed Forces responded decisively, precisely and on their own terms.

9 terrorist camps across the border were destroyed.
7 camps were neutralised by the Indian Army.

2 by the Indian Air Force.

  • The strikes were precise, calibrated and time-bound, reinforcing deterrence while maintaining escalation control.

The Plan of Action

Operation SINDOOR was planned entirely at the Military Operations Branch of the Indian Army. It was live monitored from the DGMO Ops Room with CDS along with three Service Chiefs present.

This was a clear signal of well-planned strategy and a joint command maturity.

How India countered the coward attempts of Pakistan?

  • Pakistan’s poor attempt of retaliation using drones across multiple nights (7–10 May, 2025) was effectively foiled by Indian Army Air Defence units that successfully neutralised all threats. They also demonstrated effectiveness of integrated Counter-UAS and layered air defence systems.

No panic. No damage. No casualties.

Using ground-based weapons, the Indian Army showed its power and precision by destroying over a dozen terror launch pads along the LoC.  They effectively disrupted the infiltration routes and crippled the cross-border terror logistics.

  1. And the outcome was beyond just words!
    1.  On 10 May 2025, Pakistani counterpart approached  Director General of Military Operations of the Indian Army requesting for ceasefire. Understanding was reached to stop firing/military action

2. Long-Range Firepower and Precision Strike

The year also marked India’s long-range strike capability that has moved from deterrence to dominance.

On 1st Dec 2025, a BrahMos unit of Southern Command, along with elements of Andaman & Nicobar Command, executed a combat missile launch that validated high-speed flight stability and terminal accuracy under simulated battle conditions. The exercise reinforced India’s long-range precision strike readiness.

Throughout the year, open reporting also featured Extended-range BrahMos development/testing as India pushed faster sensor-to-shooter timelines, and a more lethal precision-strike ecosystem

In 2025, India’s Pinaka rocket forces made the skies talking!

On 24th  June 2025, two additional Pinaka regiments were operationalised that boosted stand-off firepower and enabled rapid, concentrated strikes.

Remarkably, on 29th  December 2025, we marked the successful test of the Pinaka Long-Range Guided Rocket (LRGR), (reported range ~120 km).

To summarize, indigenous rocket evolution accelerated in 2025, including reported work towards ~300 km-class Pinaka variants laying foundations for future deep-strike options.

3. Aviation and High-Value Inductions: India’s Sky High Win!

22nd July, 2025 marked one of the most historic moments, when Indian Army received the first three AH-64E Apaches. More three AH-64E Apache helicopters were inducted into the Army Aviation Corps in Dec, 2025. This has led to an enhancement of close air support and anti-armour warfare.

4. Guess what…India is all set for the future wars!

Indian Army introduces new organisations and battlefield structures: Bhairav Battalions and Ashni Platoons (2025 roll-out and fielding).

October marked the capability demonstration in Rajasthan with Bhairav Battalion and Ashni Platoon, alongside newly inducted technological assets that signal visible movement from concept to fielded capability.

As per the open reporting in Oct 2025, there is a plan to operationalise 25 Bhairav light commando battalions on an accelerated timeline, and the raising of Ashni drone platoons across infantry for ISR and precision effects.

Shaktibaan Regiments and Divyastra Batteries: We can expect new structures equipped with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles including Loiter Munitions.

5. The year of acquisitions and going Atmanirbhar Bharat!

The last two years, Indian Army focused on Tech Absorption. The idea was to go from technology adoption to integration and further embedding new technologies.

  • Induction of Attack Helicopters : 6 Apache Helicopters have been inducted this year.
  • A variety of UAS have been inducted into the Indian Army in last one year. This includes various types of Drones including about 3000 RPAs, about 150 Tethered Drones, Swarm Drones, Logistics Drones for High Altitude Areas and Kamikaze Drones etc.
  • AoN accorded for Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMPs (Army)
  • MALE RPAs for tri-service surveillance/strike roles.
  • DAC approvals heavily favouring unmanned systems, counter-UAS, and precision fires
  • 91% Indigenisation: 91% of all ammunition used by the Indian Army is now indigenised.

6. India went Hi-tech!

  • Indian Army started moving towards absorbing technology structurally, 2025 saw a leap in tech absorption aimed for future wars.
  • Edge Data Centres were smartly set up closer to tactical units, to fasten data to decision cycles and shrink the timelines.
  • The year highlighted a large number of in-house softwares including software platforms like Equipment Helpline and Sainik Yatri Mitra App, reflecting focus on responsive support systems and streamlined soldier-facing services

7. The Future Ready Doctrine!

Army Commanders’ Conference (Jaisalmer) – October 2025

At the Army Commanders’ Conference in Jaisalmer, senior leadership focused squarely on:

  • Grey-zone warfare
  • Jointness
  • Aatmanirbharta and Innovation

Inida is now looking at the conflicts that blur the line between peace and war.

8. Witness the power of Military Diplomacy and Joint Exercise

(Selected Highlights)

Key bilateral exercises conducted/hosted in 2025 to deepen interoperability, counter-terror/urban ops readiness, and regional partnerships:

  • Exercise SHAKTI (India–France): 18 Jun – 01 Jul 2025 (France).
  • Exercise YUDH ABHYAS (India–USA): 01 – 14 Sep 2025 (Alaska).

  • Exercise DESERT CYCLONE-II (India–UAE): 18 – 30 Dec 2025 (Abu Dhabi).

9. Defence Dialogues and Strategic Thought Leadership

The year marked an iconic move with Chanakya Defence Dialogue (CDD) 2025, Indian Army’s flagship strategic seminar series that brings academia, defence enthusiasts, researchers, innovators, Think Tanks, media and Armed Forces personnels together.  Here are the key milestones:

  • Young Leaders Forum (31 Oct 2025)
  • Curtain Raiser (17 Nov 2025) : Podcast by General Upendra Dwivedi on major military issues.
  • Main Dialogue (late Nov 2025), anchored to the theme of reform-to-transform for a secure and developed India.

10. India goes Indigenously Innovative

Inno-Yoddha (2025–26 edition conducted in Nov–Dec 2025)  received a record 89 innovation proposals.

32 were selected for further development and fielding pathways. These innovations proved that Indian Army no longer waits for top-down directives for innovations.

This wasn’t the end of the year.. it’s the beginning of the new era, a reminder of the New India! While you are all set to enter 2026… brace yourselves, because the Indian Army has just shown you the trailer in 2025! PICTURE TOH ABHI BAAKI HAI!

Happy New Year

The name should echo: Paratrooper Sachin Laur, Sena Medal (Gallantry)

Every thought how courage looks like?

How the cost of freedom looks like?

Well, today, let’s know the definition of both! Today marks the Balidan Diwas of the courageous hero, Paratrooper Sachin Laur, a young boy who dreamt big, who dreamt India and who lived for India.

To start with… his birthdate was itself a sign…

Born on 15th August 2000, Mr. Sachin Laur made an entry on the Independence Day as if destiny paved the way!

Even as a child, he had the fire within that indicated the true heroic spirit. He hailed from a village near Jattari where he cycled everyday to attend school.  Sachin was deeply inspired by Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Interestingly, the little boy often dressed up like him, donning a pagri and performing patriotic roles in school functions and dramas. His love for the armed forces was clearly evident right from the beginning.

The journey towards Special Forces

Jumping off the mountains, swimming across the seas, surviving in extreme temperatures is what he dreamt, a life of a Para SF!

Sachin worked when the world slept, he would wake up at 3 AM and start his 15-10 KM run that wasn’t a normal one, but the one that would bring the challenge of tying bike and car tires to his waist to build strength and endurance.

He champed the Under-19 Sports Meet in 2018 in Himachal Pradesh by winning Gold in the 1600 meters race and Silver in long jump.

His rigorous training  yield fruits on 20 March 2019, when he cleared the recruitment process in his very first attempt just at the age of 18 and joined the Indian Army.

The challenge wasn’t over yet, because it just started…

His first posting was the toughest one, it was at the Siachen Glacier, one of the world’s most inhospitable battlefields.

Finally, he won it!

The glaciers of Siachen had bigger plans for him just like the mountains, the plan of joining the elite Special Forces.

In 2022, post the rigorous selection and training process, Sachin was selected for 2 PARA (Special Forces).

The SF journey finally commenced where his first posting was in Kalakot, Rajouri (Jammu & Kashmir), an area commonly known for frequent militant activity.

And he was a part of 4  successful operations where he displayed his courage and wit.

The year couldn’t get any better because Sachin found the love of his life and got engaged to Ms. Rinky Chaudhary from Tehsil Mant, District Mathura. The wedding was around the corner as it was scheduled for 8 December 2023. The preparations were on, it was clearly love in the air and he finally made his plan to return home on 27th  November for the celebrations.

But this time destiny had other plans…

On 22nd November 2023, an intel alerted about militant presence in the Solki village forests of Kalakot. And 63 Rashtriya Rifles began the operation where Captain M.V. Pranjal was martyred in action.

Soon, reinforcements arrived from 9 PARA (SF) and unfortunately, the sad news of Captain Shubham Gupta, Havaldar Abdul Majid, and Lance Naik Sanjay Bisht being martyred arrived.

It was time to call in 2 Para (SF), when finally Paratrooper Sachin Laur also joined the operation.

On the morning of 23 November 2023, destiny came to pass.

Sachin managed to spot a senior militant commander who was attempting to flee under cover. Sachin raised his weapon with unwavering determination and fired with perfect accuracy, injuring the militant. But in the exchange that followed, Paratrooper Sachin Laur was grievously wounded. He continued to fight until his very last breath, even though when he was bleeding. He succumbed to his injuries on the battlefield, attaining Veergati, sacrificing his life in the line of duty just days before his wedding.

Let’s not forget the sacrifice, let’s not forget the name. Heroes like Sachin are rare, so rare that it feels like a personal loss when we read his story, even when we never met him. A man who did everything possible to be a part of a journey to do everything for the country! Let’s salute the bravery, let’s salute our hero.

In honor of his extraordinary bravery and supreme sacrifice, Paratrooper Sachin Laur was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal Gallantry on 26 January 2024. The medal was presented to his proud and grieving parents, Smt. Bhagwati Devi and Shri Ramesh Chand and Elder brother Vivek Laur who is also serving in the Indian Navy, on 15 Jan 2025 (Army day).

The future of India’s defence tech is already here!

DISCLAIMER: This may appear like the plot of a high-end Sci-fi thriller, but this is for real!

Brace yourself well, because you are going to experience the best!

Imagine a drone that flies beyond the city landscape and battlefields, it now soars near the edge of space, far beyond radar detection all set for India’s defence, ready to strike if needed.

This isn’t science fiction. This is what Kalam Labs, a young Indian defence tech startup, is building today, the Stratospheric near space UAV.

What’s so cool about it?

The idea was clearly to go undetected with a smart approach, we are aware of the limitations of traditional drones that operate at a few thousand feet. Fighter jets can go higher but they are detectable by radars.

Let me remind you this is New India where innovation thrives everywhere and where innovators and changemakers like the team at Kalam Labs inspire many!

The team at Kalam Labs have cracked it in a way that their UAVs are designed to be launched from balloons at over 100,000 feet near space. These are called the Stratospheric ISR Drones that highlight some of the most striking features:

  • They fly 6x higher than conventional UAVs
  • Easily escape radar detection and adverse terrains
  • Conduct stealth high altitude ISR surveillance
  • Apt for Kamikaze Military missions
  • Even strike targets in enemy territory

In a way, they can operate in a space where almost nothing else can.

Why is it the need of the hour?

With Operation Sindhoor, we have witnessed the defence strength of our country, right from the warrior spirits to technology, the country is excelling. Considering the sensitive borders and the modern threats, this technology could surely be a breakthrough in India’s defence.

Boasting India’s strength with Make in India

The tech here is a full-stack solution which is built in-house:

  • Long-range telemetry (100 km+)
  • Custom flight controllers (550 MHz)
  • Encrypted ground control systems
  • Composite airframes for extreme conditions
  • Stable VTOL landing in 100+ km/h winds
  • 240x hybrid optical + thermal zoom cameras

How is Kalam Labs already creating a difference?

Kalam Labs’ UAVs have already been deployed at the Indo-China Line of Control (LoC). And its capabilities are unmatched because they

  • Fly 100,000+ ft to escape Chinese radars and adverse terrains
  • Detect enemy with 240x hybrid zoom camera EO/IR (a dual-sensor camera system that combines Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) imaging, with very powerful zoom capabilities)
  • Ingress 50 KM into enemy territory for stealth surveillance
  • Stealth loiters to avoid detection

It’s time to replace the radiosondes!

Weather predictions play an important role when it comes to defence missions.

Be it the weather conditions to determine how well the shell or missile lands, movement of jets, surveillance and stealth mission, we know that it’s incomplete without knowing the weather conditions.

But is it time to upgrade from radiosondes?

They are usually single-use and are carried far away by balloons and over 80% of which are lost after flights costing $50 million globally. Kalam Labs’ UAVs work wonders by being reusable and retrievable, cost saver and adding precision.

What Kalam Labs is building a strategic leap for India’s defence and aerospace future. The innovation that ranges from stealth surveillance to kamikaze swarms, from border missions to weather science, these UAVs will be helping in shaping the way modern warfare will be fought. This is the power of going Atmanirbhar! This is the edge of space, and this is Kalam Labs!

“India is significantly creating impact through innovative startups like Kalam Labs! In an era where defence capabilities often determine national power, Kalam Labs established by BITS Pilani graduates Ahmad Faraaz, Sashakt Tripathi, and Harshit Awasthi is writing India’s new history in aerospace and defence technology. With cutting-edge technology and initiatives, Kalam Labs is taking ahead India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat” and reaching new heights beyond the space!”
