Indian Army’s Top 10 Milestones from 2025, You Can’t Miss!

If 2025 is the year that taught the world something new then it was..
India is no longer defensive, it is offensive! It’s the New India that shapes outcomes!

The Indian Army demonstrated a masterclass in the modern warfare that combines combining deterrence, discipline, and digital dominance. Right from well calculated cross-border strikes to deep-tech battlefield integration, the Indian Army aced the diagonal of the new battleground!

Now Let’s look at the power packed year where Indian Army’s future-ready, adaptive forces set an example to the world.

Here are 10 big achievements out of many more that would make you fall for their efforts even more!

1. Operation SINDOOR: You know it, I know it!

The Operation that became the textbook course for many!

In May 2025, post the Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan Army–backed terrorists, Indian Armed Forces responded decisively, precisely and on their own terms.

9 terrorist camps across the border were destroyed.
7 camps were neutralised by the Indian Army.

2 by the Indian Air Force.

  • The strikes were precise, calibrated and time-bound, reinforcing deterrence while maintaining escalation control.

The Plan of Action

Operation SINDOOR was planned entirely at the Military Operations Branch of the Indian Army. It was live monitored from the DGMO Ops Room with CDS along with three Service Chiefs present.

This was a clear signal of well-planned strategy and a joint command maturity.

How India countered the coward attempts of Pakistan?

  • Pakistan’s poor attempt of retaliation using drones across multiple nights (7–10 May, 2025) was effectively foiled by Indian Army Air Defence units that successfully neutralised all threats. They also demonstrated effectiveness of integrated Counter-UAS and layered air defence systems.

No panic. No damage. No casualties.

Using ground-based weapons, the Indian Army showed its power and precision by destroying over a dozen terror launch pads along the LoC.  They effectively disrupted the infiltration routes and crippled the cross-border terror logistics.

  1. And the outcome was beyond just words!
    1.  On 10 May 2025, Pakistani counterpart approached  Director General of Military Operations of the Indian Army requesting for ceasefire. Understanding was reached to stop firing/military action

2. Long-Range Firepower and Precision Strike

The year also marked India’s long-range strike capability that has moved from deterrence to dominance.

On 1st Dec 2025, a BrahMos unit of Southern Command, along with elements of Andaman & Nicobar Command, executed a combat missile launch that validated high-speed flight stability and terminal accuracy under simulated battle conditions. The exercise reinforced India’s long-range precision strike readiness.

Throughout the year, open reporting also featured Extended-range BrahMos development/testing as India pushed faster sensor-to-shooter timelines, and a more lethal precision-strike ecosystem

In 2025, India’s Pinaka rocket forces made the skies talking!

On 24th  June 2025, two additional Pinaka regiments were operationalised that boosted stand-off firepower and enabled rapid, concentrated strikes.

Remarkably, on 29th  December 2025, we marked the successful test of the Pinaka Long-Range Guided Rocket (LRGR), (reported range ~120 km).

To summarize, indigenous rocket evolution accelerated in 2025, including reported work towards ~300 km-class Pinaka variants laying foundations for future deep-strike options.

3. Aviation and High-Value Inductions: India’s Sky High Win!

22nd July, 2025 marked one of the most historic moments, when Indian Army received the first three AH-64E Apaches. More three AH-64E Apache helicopters were inducted into the Army Aviation Corps in Dec, 2025. This has led to an enhancement of close air support and anti-armour warfare.

4. Guess what…India is all set for the future wars!

Indian Army introduces new organisations and battlefield structures: Bhairav Battalions and Ashni Platoons (2025 roll-out and fielding).

October marked the capability demonstration in Rajasthan with Bhairav Battalion and Ashni Platoon, alongside newly inducted technological assets that signal visible movement from concept to fielded capability.

As per the open reporting in Oct 2025, there is a plan to operationalise 25 Bhairav light commando battalions on an accelerated timeline, and the raising of Ashni drone platoons across infantry for ISR and precision effects.

Shaktibaan Regiments and Divyastra Batteries: We can expect new structures equipped with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles including Loiter Munitions.

5. The year of acquisitions and going Atmanirbhar Bharat!

The last two years, Indian Army focused on Tech Absorption. The idea was to go from technology adoption to integration and further embedding new technologies.

  • Induction of Attack Helicopters : 6 Apache Helicopters have been inducted this year.
  • A variety of UAS have been inducted into the Indian Army in last one year. This includes various types of Drones including about 3000 RPAs, about 150 Tethered Drones, Swarm Drones, Logistics Drones for High Altitude Areas and Kamikaze Drones etc.
  • AoN accorded for Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMPs (Army)
  • MALE RPAs for tri-service surveillance/strike roles.
  • DAC approvals heavily favouring unmanned systems, counter-UAS, and precision fires
  • 91% Indigenisation: 91% of all ammunition used by the Indian Army is now indigenised.

6. India went Hi-tech!

  • Indian Army started moving towards absorbing technology structurally, 2025 saw a leap in tech absorption aimed for future wars.
  • Edge Data Centres were smartly set up closer to tactical units, to fasten data to decision cycles and shrink the timelines.
  • The year highlighted a large number of in-house softwares including software platforms like Equipment Helpline and Sainik Yatri Mitra App, reflecting focus on responsive support systems and streamlined soldier-facing services
