Imagine a life where gunshots become a familiar sound, bloodshed become a constant visual, this is surely a distant nightmare for most of us but an everyday reality for soldiers! And then there are moments that they never talk about and they are the ones’ that they can never forget.
They witness things most people can’t even imagine! The lives lost of their friends on the battlefield, the scars imprinted on their hearts, the flashbacks would haunt them every night, well the list is long.
But before a soldier would want to mourn about the horrifying experiences and the tragic scenarios, he would be tasked for another mission.
A lot of us might believe that they are trained in a way that they could take it all but isn’t that an heart of a human? Can this training rule out the emotional turmoil? I know the answer could be ‘maybe’.
But atleast we would like to believe that they are humans first. Their survival isn’t just homecoming, their survival is way beyond turning the echoes of gunfire, the memories of bloodshed, and the darkness of nightmares into the normal monotony of life!
The beauty of festivities, that interesting conversation over a coffee, partying with friends, spending time with the loved ones, the ordinary is simply extraordinary for them.
The next time you come across someone from the armed forces, make them feel the ‘ordinary’.
Maybe the smiles and laughter you share with them overpower the negatives and nightmares!
